Fortnightly rant or so

Sometimes I just have to get something off my chest. So why inflict it on the whole world, you might ask? Why not, I might reply.

The problem in Palestine

Hamas, a terrorist group that has vowed to obliterate Israel, just won a majority of seats in the new Palestinian parliament. They largely defeated Fatah, the political party (if you want to call it that) of the PLO. I draw two conclusions from this.

One, Yasser Arafat was the worst thing that could have happened to the Palestinians these last 40 years. He sucked up the financial aid other nations sent to the Palestinians over those years and died close to being a billionaire, and the corruption that he cultivated was a major reason that his group was turned out in favor of a bunch of murderers.

Here's the other thing: The terrorist attacks on Israel that Hamas has perpetrated for decades are now no longer the acts of an independent, loose-cannon group. Any further terrorist acts will be the acts of a sovereign government. That makes them acts of declared war from one nation toward another. So don't look for Israel to restrain their responses anymore. This will mean all-out war, and it won't go well for the Palestinians.
