Fortnightly rant or so

Sometimes I just have to get something off my chest. So why inflict it on the whole world, you might ask? Why not, I might reply.

Gasoline prices

I looked up at the ol' clock on the wall and saw that it's time for another political rant. So ...

Boy, gas prices are high. And they're only going to go higher, but it won't be because someone is manipulating the price. It's all supply and demand. I heard on the news the other day that China and India are now using as much oil in a day as the whole world was using per day 10 years ago. That's a lot of pressure on the supply. So in my mind the country needs a two-pronged strategy.

In this I give President W credit, because he's the only elected official I've heard who seems to get it. Republicans consistently want to open up more oil drilling and development in this country, and don't go beyond that. Democrats want to throw all the oil overboard (figuratively) and rely on the benificence of the sun and wind, never mind that it won't work. What we need is short-term solution to protect us while we pursue long-term solution. As I understand, this is the essence of what Bush said in his state of the union this year.

If we could tone down the politics a little, increase our domestic drilling and build a couple more refineries, then at the same time work on hydrogen, clean nuclear and other viable options, in 10-20 years we could be energy independent and not be subject to wild swings in energy costs.

BTW, next time you hear someone rail at the oil companies, just think to yourself, "Self, just who are the oil companies?" They are thousands of employees and millions of investors, people just like you. If they can prosper within the constraints of law, then more power to 'em.

New song

Up on high, hard against the midday sky
Hanging tree, bloody hellish nails
With the power to make a broken heart
Lucky if you are.

Piercing spear, flashing point of Caesar fear
Baptist flood, water and the blood
With the power to make a broken heart
Lucky if you are
With a broken heart
Lucky if you are.

Weeping eve, tearful witness women see
Holy grave, seal the garden wound
With the power to make a broken heart
Lucky if you are
With a broken heart
Lucky if you are.

Upper room, birthmarks of the earthen womb,
Flesh and bone, Jesus lives again
With the power to heal a broken heart
Lucky if you are
With a broken heart
Lucky if you are
With a broken heart
Blessed if you are.

A Word from the Fathers

Let no one grieve at his poverty,
for the universal kingdom has been revealed.
Let no one mourn that he has fallen again and again;
for forgiveness has risen from the grave.
Let no one fear death, for the Death of our Savior has set us free.
He has destroyed it by enduring it.

1 Kings 5:7

"And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, 'Blessed be the Lord this day, who has given unto David a wise son over this great people.' "

Hiram was king of Tyre, which also had rule over the city of Sidon. Flash forward now to Matthew 11:21: "... For if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes." These are the words of the Son of David. I find this fascinating.

Ps. 109:1-20

You didn't really think I was going to type in all these verses did you?

Read this passage with Judas in mind. It's amazing.
