Fortnightly rant or so

Sometimes I just have to get something off my chest. So why inflict it on the whole world, you might ask? Why not, I might reply.

Evangelicals amok

As part of the ongoing attempt by the Church to imitate the culture (instead of the other way around), some group has come up with a clone of MySpace call HisHolySpace. It is full of cheese, but I have a presence there anyway because it's basically my target audience. Anyway, the site has been shut down because the administrator decided to disallow Catholic groups because of traditional Catholic teachings about salvation. Now if you call up the site you see the following message:

"The recent fury of attention brought to HisHolySpace has caused the management to take an honest reflection as to the original intent of the site. In light of the Site Administrator's recent actions that have come into question in message boards across the world, we have spent time reviewing the Radio Show transcripts and Administrator Correspondence over the past few weeks and we believe this Administrator did not act in the best interests of the site, or its 7500 members. HisHolySpace is a place for Christian Fellowship. It is not our place to judge what denominations of Christianity are worthy of membership on the site.

"HisHolySpace will return with a new Site Administrator in place. It will return with a renewed commitment to the entire Christian Community, and a clearer understanding of the goals and guidelines for use of the site."

So the divisions continue as some evangelicals seem to be more interested in whom to disallow rather than whom to reach. Never mind all the evangelical Catholics you can find if you look; never mind the former Pope's declaration (written by the current Pope) declaring salvation through faith alone. It's a sad state, but many protestants still seem to have the mindset of wanting to take anyone who disagrees outside for a good thrashing. "When the son of Man returns, will He find faith?"

More from the Saint

There are a few new posts at St. Celibart: Did you ever wonder if some of the trouble in translating Scripture is because of idioms that made perfect sense back then but are lost to us now? Three thousand years from now, what will phrases like "spic and span" mean to anybody? So I offer a few Proverbs for Today. Also a pen & ink rendering “Pierced” and new poetry, “Ecstasy!” Arts for Christ’s Bride, free and available to all.

Rom. 9:29

"And as Isaiah said before, 'Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a Seed, we had been as Sodom, and been made like unto Gomorrah.' " — Rom. 9:29

The capitalization above is mine; I don't think this verse can be understood unless you do capitalize "Seed." Except for the sake of the line of Messiah, the seed that was passed from generation to generation, God would have destroyed Israel just as He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. At each step of history, from Abraham to Jesus, God preserved the Jewish nation for the sake of the single man carrying the seed: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, Perez, Hezron, Arni, Amminadab, Nahshon, Salmon, Boaz, Obed, Jesse, David, Nathan, Mattatha, Menna, Melea, Eliakim, Jonam, Joseph, Judas, Simeon, Levi, Matthat, Jorim, Eliezer, Joshua, Er, Elmadam, Cosam, Addi, Melchi, Neri, Shealtiel, Zerubbabel, Rhesa, Joanan, Joda, Josech, Semein, Mattathias, Maath, Naggai, Esli, Nahum, Amos, Mattathias, Joseph, Jannai, Melchi, Levi, Matthat, Heli, and then Mary. "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed ..." (Gen. 3:15)
